Search for Hoonah boaters suspended
JUNEAU -- The search for three Hoonah men overdue from a boating trip to Juneau was suspended Thursday, Coast Guard officials said. The men began their trip from Hoonah about a week ago in a 17-foot skiff. They were reported missing by a relative on Tuesday and the Coast Guard began searching that day. Thursday's search of the water and coastline between Hoonah and Juneau found no sign of the men or their skiff. Coast Guard spokesman Mark Hunt said the best-case scenario is that the men are hunting on one of the islands in the area and were not aware of the search. The men, Larry Gray, 37, Andrew S. Jackson, 44, and Larry Sanders Jr., 35, are friends who grew up together in Hoonah, said Sanders' father, Larry Sanders Sr. Last week the seas and winds on the route from Hoonah to Juneau were 5 feet and 23 mph, according to the Coast
Guard.
